We had a very enjoyable lunch on April 26 with 12 people in attendance. Due to various conflicts Miles Lauzon, Ken Rossel and Gerry Garber sent regrets.
Frank Papp had planned to attend but we were sending the emails to an old address and did not discover our error until after the lunch. This screw-up emphasizes a couple of things: first of all if your email address changes, please advise us (this was not the case with Frank), secondly if you think that you should have been receiving some information from us and you have not, please send us an email. You must remember that you are dealing with a couple of 70-years olds with limited abilities and subpar memories.

Now look at this picture of Glenn Weston and try to guess what is he doing ?? Perhaps you might think he was leading a spirited old fashioned church revival meeting (nope!), or maybe he was furiously trying to get peoples’ attention so he could get a word in edge-wise (closer, but that’s not it either).Glenn is actually showing us a video of his grandson, Evan Thwaites reciting, in 53 seconds, ALL the elements of the periodic table!! Screen shot of Evan is below. Glenn has given me a copy of the video if anyone would like to see it. John Stainton mentioned that he could probably rattle off 20 or so elements. As for me – well, let’s change the subject…
Other News Updates
Gerry Garber reports that he is newly married to Cora whom he met on a tour of the Holy Land. Congratulations Gerry, we look forward to meeting Cora at the reunion (and we promise not to hold back on stories about you!)
Bob Taylor was recently in touch with Peter Yates who now lives in Bracebridge. They plan to get together some time over the summer months so hopefully we will have some stories to share with you after that meeting.
Tom Boughner advises that after several months of chemotherapy, the primary tumour was reduced to the point that it could be removed surgically and he is well on the way to beating prostate cancer!
Al and Betty Soligo recently moved into a Condo in Fergus. Interestingly, it is on the site of Tom and Timmie Little’s old high school. Al reports that evidence of Tom’s juvenile delinquent tendencies at the school are no longer evident.
For many of us, Vietnam might sound like an interesting tourist destination. But John Hilton had a more compelling reason to go there with his family. In February, they all headed off to Vietnam so that John’s son and wife could adopt a 10-month-old baby girl from an orphanage 2 hours NW of Hanoi! According to Vietnamese custom, there was a transfer ceremony followed by quality time spent bonding with the new parents and a little bit of sight-seeing before returning home to Vancouver. John reports that there are still lots of reminders of French
colonization in that country as well as lots of traffic gridlock and horn-honking in the crowded city of Hanoi. John provided a couple of pix – the first is at the orphanage, the second is a ceremony at the Department of Justice.

Our congratulations go out to John and family on the addition of their new family member!!
September Reunion Update
More people have signed up for reunion activities AND there is still time to join us. Now that we have commitments from a core group, others can be included up until a month before the event at Peller Estates when we must make a firm commitment to them on attendance. This does not mean we want you to wait until the last minute to tell us you are coming but if that is the only timing that works for you, we will still be very pleased if you are able to attend.
