Report of the Oct 13, 2021 class lunch, paid for by Brian Blackwell, the planned class lunch or dinner to catch up on the delayed 50th Anniversary, and an update on the scholarship fund
Hi guys,

S
ome News Updates:

A visitor from the west

Brian Blackwell is planning a trip to Ontario in January. In honour of the occasion, we are proposing a class lunch on Monday, January 24, 2022 so be sure to reserve this date on your calendar. Further information will follow closer to the date.

Class Mailing List

There were some issues with the class email list because we transferred our data from a desktop computer to an Apple product. Some addresses were accidentally dropped and for that we apologize. We believe everything is
straightened around but to be sure, we are asking everyone to reply to this email to confirm that we have your correct email address and our list is complete.

Scholarship Update

Bob Taylor reports the following good news!

Bob contacted Prachi at Waterloo and she indicated that the funds available when current pledges are in, is $47,000. This is sucient to endow the fund (minimum of $40,000) which means that income earned will accrue to the fund. The surplus will be held in trust. Prachi suggested that we are in a position to increase the scholarship amount to $2,000 which is more impactful and add a second award. Bob said he would check with the class and get back to her.

Bob needs to know if you agree with this approach. Please reply directly to him with your response (Robert.Taylor@Trisura.com).

Concerning this year's candidate, Prachi has no information so far but will contact Bob as soon as she knows.

Class Lunch Wednesday, October 13, 2021

We had a great turnout for the recent class lunch – there were 16 guys (15 in person and one virtually) plus 11 ladies in their own room! Doug Deeth and Brian Blackwell arranged for Brian to join us via video conference. Doug passed his phone around and each one of us got to talk to Brian. It was a wonderful surprise and something we should do more of with classmates that are not local and cannot join us in person. Then the biggest surprise was that Brian paid the check for all of our lunches. It was like Christmas came early and thanks to Brian, whoever said there are “No Free Lunches” has been proven to be wrong.

Obviously, people were tired of restrictions and lockdowns so this opportunity to get together was a welcome departure from all the Covid crap. Unfortunately, someone forgot to take some pictures to commemorate the event!

Once again our apologies.

Spring Get together May/June 2022

We are planning a class lunch for the spring (or possibly a more formal class reunion as a belated celebration of our twice postponed 50th anniversary). If you anticipate any vacation travel in the May-June period, please let us know
so we can hopefully find a date to maximize the turnout. More information will follow early in the new year and will obviously depend on COVID developments.

We look forward to seeing you in January.

Stay safe,
Tom & Vic
