Plans for 2017; visits to / from class members (Aldo Donnarumma, Bob Paxton); updates from those who could not attend, and report on October lunch. Photos of the lunch are in the newsletter.
Hi guys,

For our 2017 reunion, the main class get-together and supper is planned for Peller Estates Winery & Restaurant in the Niagara region, on the afternoon/evening of Friday, September 8, 2017. Other
events/get-togethers are being investigated for Saturday & Sunday (in case some can’t make the Peller event and also provide more opportunities to visit with your old classmates). Further details will follow but in the meantime please book the weekend of Friday-Sunday, September 8-10 on your calendar!

The Peller event will require a signed contract - indicating the number of people attending, so when we get back to you with the final details we will ask you to make a firm commitment to join us at this event. Frank Papp and Dave Harris have agreed to assist in providing information on such things as local accommodations, sight-seeing attractions, theatre/Casino shows and even shopping opportunities.

In the meantime, here are a few class updates for you.

In July, Vic Shantora and Al Soligo paid a visit to Aldo Donnarumma. Aldo is enjoying retirement living in a very pleasant gated community in Wilmington, North Carolina just a stone’s throw from the ocean.

Can you remember who’s who?
NOTE: ‘three old farts trying to figure out how to take a selfie’, WILL NOT be considered an acceptable answer!!

Ken Rossel Bob Paxton Montreal Sept 2016

Ken Rossel recently had lunch in Montreal with Bob Paxton. Bob continues to ply his music profession as a church organist.

Kelly Wilson lives in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia where he was Town Councilor. He sought the Mayor’s job in the town’s recent elections but unfortunately lost out to the Deputy Mayor. Nevertheless, thank you Kelly for your contribution to public service!!

Glenn Weston has turned himself into a renovation specialist as Rudy and he make improvements to their cottage on Lake Erie.

In a recent email, Lanny Harris indicated that Silvia & he were having a great time enjoying fine wines and good food in Sicily.

Russ Dickinson’s unfortunate recent experience is a good reminder to us all that golf can be a dangerous sport. Russ was golfing this spring, slipped on a hillside (no doubt looking for a lost ball), fell and broke his leg. He has now fully recovered – but perhaps looking for a safer sport to participate in. Anyone for Pickle Ball??

There is a rumour that in order to apply to UofW engineering programs these days you need a MINIMUM of 95% coming out of high school, and typically only 98% + gets you in the door. Miles Lauzon says that for those entering the Chem Eng program at UofW today, the big study topic is ‘Nanotechnology’. Bring on those bucky balls…The October class lunch was well attended – 14 people in all. Here are a few pictures for your amusement…

Class Lunch Oct 2016 1

Group Mug Shot of the Assembled Mass (missing Ross & Frank who had to leave early and Brian who is taking the picture)Some people who planned to attend but could not make it:

Doug Deeth just finished having back surgery and was instructed by his doctor to take it easy at home for a few days and milk his condition for all that is was worth.

Bob Taylor had to attend a board meeting. (That’s the trouble with still being on the payroll.)

Ken Rossel and Dave Parsons had unavoidable conflicts

Car Pooling

With any of our lunches or other events, we would like to suggest that you consider carpooling (if possible and convenient) with some of your nearby classmates. It can make the drive a very enjoyable part of the experience especially if you could ride with Bob Taylor in his Aston Martin DB 9.

We need your help!

We continue to work to track down missing classmates but try as we might, the following people seem to have disappeared (maybe they are in the witness protection program – who knows). Anyway, if you come across any of these folks or know their coordinates, please let us know.

Hope we aren’t rushing the season too much with our wish for everyone to have a Merry Christmas and good health in 2017.

P.S. Please add the spring lunch date to your calendar (Wednesday, April 26/17) AND if any of you ‘out-of-towners’ happen to be coming into the GTA and can give us a heads-up we will arrange for an impromptu lunch to celebrate the occasion.
